NCAA Basketball Season Start

The 2022-23 NBA season has already begun, and that generates plenty of excitement when it comes to basketball fans in the U.S. Most professional sports are much more popular than college sports, but that might not be the case with basketball.

College basketball is an extremely popular sport, and it’s not just popular during the month of March. Several major programs continue to schedule some massive games to begin the season, and that only adds to the drama and excitement.

This is going to be another year in which it takes some time to figure out the rosters for each team, as it was another massive year for the transfer portal. The best teams in the country continue to acquire some of the most prized transfers, and it’s going to make those programs even better.

There will be one difference during the 2022-23 season though, as the Duke University Blue Devils will have a new head coach.

Top 10 is Loaded

The AP Preseason Top 25 poll doesn’t really mean much in terms of which team is going to win the title, but it does show you what teams are expected to be great. A quick look at the Top 10 for the upcoming season is a list full of blue blood programs.

It is North Carolina at the top of the preseason polls, and the Tar Heels came up just a bit short in the national championship game a season ago. The Gonzaga Bulldogs are right behind North Carolina, and they continue to search for their first title.

Here is the rest of the Top 10 teams in the preseason poll:

  • Houston Cougars
  • Kentucky Wildcats
  • Kansas Jayhawks
  • Baylor Bears
  • Duke Blue Devils
  • UCLA Bruins
  • Creighton Bluejays
  • Arkansas Razorbacks

Big Men Set to Dominate?

Guards tend to dominate the action once the NCAA Tournament begins, but this could be the year of the big man in college basketball. The Associated Press has named its preseason All-American team, and it’s full of big men.

Marcus Sasser from Houston is the only guard on the preseason All-American team, but there are other talented guards that can make a run as the season moves along. Here are the other four players expected to be All-American this season:

●Drew Timme (Gonzaga)

●Oscar Tshiebwe (Kentucky)

●Trayce Jackson-Davis (Indiana)

●Armando Bacot (North Carolina)

NCAA Tournament Expansion Talks

It’s no stranger to see college basketball in the news during the offseason, but there was a pretty interesting report circulating over the past few weeks. Several of the biggest coaches in the sport are pushing for an NCAA Tournament expansion that would create plenty of drama.

It’s pretty easy to make the case that the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament is the greatest postseason event around. Expanding it would definitely add an additional round with more games, but it could also take away from the excitement of the current structure.

Since more money would be made with expansion, don’t be surprised to see this happening at some point.
